Land Rover Series 2a 88" Ex Military
First built 1st May 1967, the vehicle then left the military and was registered for first road use 30th October 1974. The vehicle was registered in Oxfordshire where it has remained for most of it's life until we acquired the vehicle.
Tax and Mot Exempt.
Very Original Condition with many original military specification features still fitted.
The vehicle has been subject to recent recommissioning which included overhauling the braking system fitting a new military under seat fuel tank, fully rebuilding the original gearbox, new clutch, restoring the original split rim wheels and the list goes on.
BODYWORK
The body is overall in good shape and all the panels are remarkably straight considering it is an ex military vehicle.
The rear tub unlike most Land Rovers is remarkably straight in the back and doesn't show any signs of hard use.
The bulkhead is exceptionally solid and the footwells are both in remarkable condition and require no attention.
The chassis is in good condition and requires no outriggers the twin fuel tanks are both still in place. Including the correct change over valve.
This vehicle has always had a spare wheel fitted on the bonnet it is in good condition and secured correctly.
INTERIOR
It has a complete set of new front seats. It has benefited from a standard canvas which is to not the correct military spec. However one can be fitted should the buyer wish.
UNDER THE BONNET
The engine bay has been left completely standard, including the correct 2. 25 petrol engine. It really does drive with plenty of power and will happily sit at 60mph without any problem.
ON THE ROAD
The engine busts into life on the turn of the key. It always starts first time and is a great runner. The vehicle really does pull very well and is a joy to drive. The is no play in the drivetrain and it drives very well.
With the canvas sides rolled up and the door tops off this vehicle really does draw some attention.
The vehicle will be supplied with a 12 month MOT with no advisories.
The gears change up and down as they should the main box and transfer box both function correctly.
Almost all Series Land Rovers we have had drip a little oil, some quite a lot, this is the exception though no drips of oil to speak of even after standing for days in the same place.
SUMMARY
This is a fantastic example of a ex military Series 2 and there aren't many around in such original and great condition. All the numbers match - the chassis numbers on the plates are the same as on the log book registration document and that stamped on the chassis itself.
This Land Rover has obviously been cared for and cherished by its previous owners. It is a fantastic example that requires no work and is ready to use and enjoy.
