Straddling the line between GT and full-blown supercar, the Ferrari F12 is a heart-thumping thriller with one of the best engines known to man.
If there is such a thing as a front-engined supercar, then the Ferrari F12 is surely it. While its mechanical layout mirrors that of a traditional Ferrari grand tourer, the execution is extreme, and closer to the smaller, lighter mid-engined cars from Maranello.
The F12's 6. 3-litre V12 is one of the finest in any road car. Producing 730bhp at 8250rpm (it revs to 8700rpm) and 509lb ft at 6000rpm it delivers 0-62mph in 3. 1-seconds, 0-124mph in 8. 5-seconds and a top speed of over 211mph. Those acceleration figures put it ahead of a McLaren F1 and around Ferrari's Fiorano test track it’s faster than an Enzo or even the ultra-extreme 599 GTO.
Whilst the performance is pretty hardcore meaning the F12 is as thrilling as a Caterham 620R it offers an extremely inhabitable interior, and a boot that easily fits a couple of large cases with ease so this isn’t unusable – on the contrary this car needn’t intimidate or be overlooked for regular and pleasurable daily use. Whether GT or Supercar, this is still a car that, at heart, is dominated by its performance.
But what performance. And what drama.
