Now with us here at RFH Classics we have this ultra rare 1988 (E) Volvo 240 GLT Estate Auto finished in Inferno Red with Black Leather trim and this icon of an estate car has only had 2 local owners. The car was supplied by Pinney’s Volvo of Harpenden to Mrs Stockwell of the Universal toy shop in Harpenden in June 1988 who went on to own it until the 2nd owner, who also purchased through Pinney’s, acquired the car in March 1993. The 240 GLT Estate is a very rare and for sure one with low miles, only 2 owners and this level of services is most definitely rare. The paintwork can only be described as stunning on the car, we have detailed the bodywork with multi level paint preparation to bring out the stunning shine and to compliment this the 15” Virgo Alloy wheels have been professional refurbished to their former glory.
Inside this wonderful estate car you are greeted by Black Leather supremely comfortable seats that, like the rest of the car, are in fabulous condition. As you would expect from any quality Volvo the front seats are heated which I am sure, with the front headlamp wipers, means the car had what is known as a Winter Pack fitted. In the boot you will find an original Volvo dog guard fitted behind the back seat that folds up into the roof space as well as a genuine Volvo hard shell load cover, all of which have seen very little use. There is a tow bar fitted with twin electrics although I am led to believe this hasn’t been used since the change of owners in 1993. The whole of the interior feels like it has hardly been used and in near perfect condition.
Under the bonnet sits the 2316cc 4 Cylinder (153 bhp) Petrol engine paired in this case to a 4 Speed Automatic gearbox. The car, which has 36 stamps in the service book, has been serviced annually with the services from 1996 all being done by the same garage and includes a cam belt change at 53, 000 miles although prior to it leaving us it will be replaced again along with a service. The car drives so exceptionally well and for sure there are not many left out there with the providence of this car. With the car is a substantial history file that included old copies of V5 Log Books, Old MOT Tests, the Original Blue Volvo Owners Manuals and Wallets and a Lifetime Warranty Invoice for the exhaust that was stamped by the supplier every year from 1994 until 2022.
