We are delighted to bring this very nicely restored Land Rover Series IIA into our showroom. The exterior of this Short Wheelbase example features a restored, aluminium body mounted on a galvanised steel ladder-frame chassis. The Black wheels wrapped in 750 tyres complement the Nardo Grey paintwork perfectly making this Land Rover a superbly presented 4x4. Being the SWB 88” example, WNK 986J maintains a compact yet commanding presence. The spartan interior features recently renewed vinyl upholstery, with two bench seats in the rear. A minimalist dashboard houses a central instrument cluster with essential gauges in keeping with the workhorse heritage.
In the late 2000s, WNK 986J was subject to some engineering work on the engine where it had the block refaced, had the cylinders rebored, and the cylinder head was also replaced with a lead-free high-performance head. Other engine work included renewing the con rod bearings, main bearings, timing chain, oil pump gears, as well as having the front cover oil seal, crankshaft oil seals and the rear main bearing seal replaced. This major piece of engine work was carried out just 6, 000 miles ago and the vehicle pulls exceptionally well.
The 1971 Land Rover Series IIA Short Wheelbase is a rugged, iconic vehicle that combines mechanical simplicity with unmatched off-road capability. Its compact size, durable construction, and unfiltered driving experience make it a cherished classic for enthusiasts and adventurers alike.
