This is a beautifully presented and remarkably well-maintained example of the ever-popular MGB Roadster, finished in its factory-correct colour of Black with Grey leather upholstery – a timeless pairing that suits the car perfectly. Supplied new by Mann Egerton Limited of Luton to an essence distillery in London, the car remained in the capital for decades. In fact, the second owner cherished it for an impressive 41 years before passing it on in 2022. It has since belonged to a MG enthusiast based in Huddersfield who has enjoyed the car during recent classic car seasons.
YLU 606S has covered just 5, 000 miles since a comprehensive restoration completed in 2011, and comes with an astonishing and fully documented maintenance history totaling over £52, 000 during its life. The last restoration includes recent attention such as rebuilt SU carburettors, front suspension overhaul, new propshaft and clutch, and a full stainless-steel exhaust system that gives the car a lovely, throaty tone on the road.
The MG presents beautifully throughout. Its chrome bumper conversion and uprated wheels give the car a purposeful and sporting stance, while a modern mohair soft top – subtly detailed with silver stitching – ties the colour scheme together perfectly. This is a Roadster that has clearly been loved. The driving experience is equally pleasing: overdrive makes for relaxed cruising, but when the mood strikes, the B feels sharp and engaging through winding roads.
Structurally, this example is excellent. The underside is clean and sound, the panel fit is very good, and the deep black paintwork carries a fine gloss. Chrome work is superb and the engine bay and boot are both smartly finished. Inside, the cockpit feels inviting with beautifully kept upholstery and a tasteful aftermarket steering wheel adding a touch of individuality.
YLU 606S is a car with provenance, investment, and patina in all the right places – a well-prepared, honest example that can be driven and enjoyed with confidence.
