The Triumph Roadster (TR) dynasty, which made the brand so successful and famous, began in 1950 with the TR1 (also known as the 20 TS). This rather simplistic and rustic model gave way two years later to the TR2, this time really sporty but also economical and fun, which was well placed in the range of British roadsters that were very popular in the United States. It was more modern than the MG TD and much less expensive than the Jaguar XK 120 roadster. 170 km/ h in the early 50s was a remarkable performance... It was replaced in 1956 by the TR3 and then the TR3 A, with its front disc brakes. 1961 saw the unveiling of the TR4 designed by the Italian coachbuilder Michelotti, with a 2. 2-litre engine and a fully synchronised gearbox. Another technological innovation, rare at the time, was the independent rear suspension introduced on the TR4 A. In the mid-1960s, Triumph introduced a new 6-cylinder engine with Lucas mechanical fuel injection on the TR5. The last real Triumph Roadster was the TR 6 presented in 1969, restyled by the German coachbuilder Karmann. It is this model that we are presenting to you today. Although a 1974 model, our roadster was delivered new in January 1975 by the American dealer BURBANK IMPORTS in California, where it remained until 2018, when it was imported into France. We have the original service booklet, the original manual and numerous documents attesting to its very good maintenance during its 44 years in the USA by an owner who seems very much in love with his car. We have the registration cards showing that this gentleman kept it from 1975 until 2002. It was completely restored in 2018 and is now in truly sublime condition, allowing it to be the centre of attention at classic car events. You can rediscover the real pleasure of driving with the top down, with its lively, supple six-cylinder engine. A manual fan control has been added to cool the car sufficiently whenever the situation demands. This really is the most usable and iconic Triumph Roadster, affordable and to be used as often as possible!
