THE BUGATTI CHIRON PUR SPORT
Unveiled in March 2020 and produced in strictly limited numbers through 2021, the Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport is the most focused, driver-centric variant of the legendary Chiron hypercar, and the rarest iteration of the Chiron line. This car, more than any other, pays homage to Bugatti's racing heritage and was developed in response to customer demand for a more agile and engaging Bugatti. Consequently, the Pur Sport features a fully revised suspension system and all-new transmission with faster shift times, to offer improved lateral grip, downforce, and racetrack-inspired performanceall without compromising Chiron's peerless luxury.
The Pur Sport features Bugatti's formidable 8. 0-liter quad-turbocharged W16 engine, producing a staggering 1, 500 horsepower and 1, 180 lb-ft of torque. Paired with a re-engineered 7-speed dual-clutch transmission featuring shorter gear ratios than its predecessor, the Pur Sport accelerates with brutal immediacy, officially 0-60 mph in 2. 3 seconds. Although electronically limited to 218 mph, the focus here is not on speed, but rather dexterity, power, and a more responsive driving experience.
Weighing in at 4, 400 lbs, the Chiron Pur Sport is 110 lbs lighter than the standard Chiron, thanks to extensive use of carbon fiber in the bodywork and interior, magnesium wheels, and titanium exhaust. Most importantly, Bugatti re-engineered the suspension with 65 percent stiffer springs in the front and 33 percent stiffer in the back compared to other Chirons, revised dampers, and custom Michelin Sport Cup 2 R tires, resulting in razor-sharp handling and a chassis that delivers unprecedented feedback. Massive carbon-ceramic brakes with lightweight calipers ensure fade-free stopping power and optimal balance under high-performance driving.
The Pur Sport was conceptualized under the leadership of Achim Anscheidt, Bugatti's Director of Design, and Frank Heyl, Deputy Design Director, in close collaboration with Bugatti engineers led by Stephan Winkelmann, then President of Bugatti. Their vision was clear: build a Chiron that could dance as well as dominatea machine equally at home on winding Alpine passes as on exclusive European racing circuits.
Visually, the Pur Sport is unmistakable. Aerodynamic enhancements include a massive fixed rear wing with bold Bugatti insignia, an aggressive new front splitter and diffuser, enlarged air intakes, and an X-shaped titanium exhaust outlet. These features not only amplify the car's exotic presence but also contribute real aerodynamic benefits, improving downforce and high-speed stability. This car looks like it's ready for lift-off, even when parked!
Inside, the Pur Sport delivers a driver-focused cockpit swathed in Alcantara, carbon fiber, and anodized aluminum. Unlike the standard Chiron, much of the interior trim eschews glossy finishes in favor of tactile materials to reduce distraction and weight. The minimalist instrument panel keeps the focus on driving, while the sports seats provide support, without compromising long-distance comfort.
