1939 MG TA Series - recent major engine & clutch overhaul
The replacement for the P-Series MG Midget came in the form of the all-new T-Series, introduced in 1936. Powered by the overhead-valve 1292cc engine, the first of the line - later referred to as the TA - was a larger car that offered improved comfort and a roomier cockpit than its predecessor.
The TA also benefited from the adoption of hydraulic brakes and represented excellent value at £222 when new. Buyers could also specify, at additional cost, the elegant Tickford Drophead Coupé or the streamlined Airline Coupé.
Production ran until the spring of 1939, by which time 3, 003 TA models had been built. This MG TA, chassis number TA3234 is just 19 away from the final car produced. It has been in the current ownership for the past 20 years and been meticulously cared for.
This car retains its original tool set in the correct trays under the bonnet and has been fitted with new wheels, and a stainless-steel exhaust system. Other work has included the overhaul of the kingpins and is fitted with a Tomkins steering box adjustment. She has covered just 2, 000 miles since a major engine and clutch overhaul.
This late model dates from 1939 and has been in the hands of its current owner for some 20 years. Clearly cherished, it has benefitted from a major engine and clutch overhaul costing almost £6, 000 and less than 2, 000 have been covered subsequently. Importantly, unlike many TA models, it retains its correct MPJG engine, ensuring eligibility and acceptance by the VSCC.
Recently serviced and ready for the road, this MG is accompanied by a file of receipts for work carried out.
