1959 Austin Healey 3000 MKI BN7 (2-seater)
GSK 817 was built on the 7th-8th April 1959 and left the factory in Colorado Red with Red upholstery. This Austin Healey 3000 MKI was originally sold new in New York, USA with wire wheels, overdrive, adjustable steering column, heater, laminated windscreen and miles per hour speedometer.
In 1991 the Healey was brought over to the UK and subject to a right-hand drive steering conversion and restoration works.
In 2010 after 19 years the Healey was sold to an enthusiast in Sweden where it spent five years.
In 2015 GSK 817 came back to the UK presented in beautiful condition. The bodywork is in fantastic condition with excellent straight panels and a lovely paint finish with the upholstery having a lovely aged, quality feel.
A mechanical overhaul was completed by ourselves at JME in 2019 along with interior trim and paintwork repairs.
The engine bay is highly presentable and nicely painted. This is a high-quality example that is ready to be driven and enjoyed, finding a better driving more relaxed 3000 MKI 2-seater may not be easy. The engine pulls superbly, holds excellent oil pressure and offers impressive performance. Remaining on the original HD6 carbs, the fast road camshaft provides a nice burst of acceleration when hitting the throttle. The four-speed gearbox changes up and down smoothly and the overdrive comes in and out correctly. The brakes are sharp and the steering direct. The car has been upgraded to include a high torque starter motor, alternator, electric cooling fan, spin on oil filter conversion and electronic fuel pump.
With a fantastic suspension ride, it's certainly one of the best driving MKI 3000's we've recently had through our doors.
The car retains its original chassis and body plates and is supplied with full wet weather equipment that includes hood, tonneau and side screens. A comprehensive documents file detailing all work completed since its repatriation in 2015 accompanies the car including heritage certificate and V5C registration document.
A rare, attractive and highly desirable Austin Healey 3000 BN7 version with this being one of only 2825 MKI 2-seaters produced.
