THIS 1975 MGB roadster is an early model so far as the introduction of the rubber bumper version goes. It was registered in August 1975 and, as such, is cross-over model. That is to say that much of its dashboard set up remains the same as the original going back to 1962. Not all of it, but quite a lot. It was the following year when BL gave the model a fresh dashboard of its own. To that end, and just as an example, the overdrive switch spent a short lived time as a left hand stalk on the steering wheel. Overdrive on 3rd and 4th is instantaneous.
Condition-wise this B is a beauty. Yes, B for beauty. Finished in a great Leyland colour of Damask Red (other colours are available but that has long been my opinion when it comes to BL sports cars), she has had new panels and a full and excellent re-paint. She gleams in the sun and drives just as she appears.
These RB models have shaken off their tag of being second rate to their predecessor. Yes, the good old traditional MGB was and still is a great looking car with that low look and all that chrome. But these later models, with their raised suspension, sit better and drive better. Again, my opinion. They just feel more like an everyday user.
She is excellent underneath too and comes with a hood that looks as good as new. Her seats and firm and comfortable, helping in the car's drivability. She does indeed handle ever so well. Thousands have been spent on her over the years and, in the history file, it states that one owner was sad to see her leave after 23 years of ownership!
You get a lot of car for your money with one of these MGBs. Again, and it is my opinion, I believe a fair rule of thumb would be to say that pound for pound a good RB version is worth around two-thirds of an equivalent chrome bumpered model. There was a time when the later car was worth less than half. Times have changed. C'est la vie.
Go and find a better 1975 model for my asking price of £5995. You will struggle. She is a gem of an MG and the speedo reading of 60, 000 may well be correct.
