Few cars match the refined restraint of the 250 GT Coupé Series I by Pinin Farina, which was unveiled at the 1958 Paris Motor Show. Emerging as Ferrari’s first model to be produced in larger numbers, 353 examples were built through to 1960.
According to Marcel Massini, chassis number 1463 GT was completed in September 1959. Initially delivered to Auto Becker in Germany, it was then exported to the United States for Luigi Chinetti Motors. Records from the Ferrari Owners Club of North America show that, by 1974, the car was owned by Mr Brian Johnston of Vancouver, who kept it for at least two years. In 1987, the car was sold by another Canadian enthusiast to British collector Leslie Meek, who later resided in Tennessee. Mr Meek presented the Coupé at the Ferrari Owners Club Concours d’Elegance at Brocket Hall in July 1989, reportedly winning first in class.
Around 2001, Meek had the Ferrari cosmetically refreshed with a repaint in Rosso over tan leather. After 23 years of single ownership, the car was sold in March 2010 to a new caretaker in the United Kingdom. They commissioned a complete restoration, including applying the current Grigio Scuro paint to accompany a Nero roof and retrimmed tan interior.
The car was acquired in 2014 by the current owner, an enthusiast based in Germany. In June 2021, the Ferrari was featured in a full-colour article in Motor Klassik magazine. A masterful study in understated elegance, chassis number 1463 GT would make a powerful and refined complement to any sporting garage.
