The holy grail ******…
Group 2.. Does that mean anything to you? Probably yes, or maybe you’ve heard of it. Be sure to read the ‘history’ column on our site first, because here we explain in detail what manufacturer Ford has done with the ****** model to make it iconic to this day. Of course, you have a 1100 cc, and 1300 cc, etc. But we put those aside as a ‘normal utility car’ and focus solely on the sporty variants. And then straight to the fattest ****** that left the specially set up and new Advanced Vehicle Operations (AVO) department in Aveley, Essex: the Ford ****** Mk1 RS 1600.
After years of searching, the Dutch Ford ****** specialist and former rally champion Erwin Doctor finally managed to find a truly original Group 2 ******. Counterfeits are offered more often. Also nice, but the real specialist only goes for the real deal. The real one was discovered in Belgium in 2020. Not through an advertisement on the internet, but purely through his extensive network, as is always the case with a real specialist.
A 4-year restoration followed, during which nothing was left to chance. Everything had to be according to original standards, down to the last bolt. Many hundreds of hours were spent to achieve this and now that the car is ready we can only say: this is truly the best one can wish for. Because it was a desirable car and it is even more so today. Too beautiful to drive? Some people see it that way, but cars are meant to be driven. This ****** is very welcome at all major events and will see many jealous faces pass by. Or, for example, do you already have a collection in which this recently completed ****** fits? Also fantastic of course.
Many of us have seen the Escorts thundering across the rally paths in the past with the thought in mind, if and ever and I wish that… etc. You know the drill. I would like to, but it never happened. Now, a few decades later, that wish may come true. You can go for the Mexico, or the RS 2000. But if the budget allows it, why not get behind the wheel of this ultimate ****** RS 1600? With the legendary 1780 cc. BDA engine under the hood and ZF 5-speed gearbox, 4-link Atlas rear axle with 4. 6 transmission and limited slip differential, Bilstein gravel suspension and short steering rack, AP brakes all around with pedal box, etc. etc. All mounted on the reinforced and original bodyshell. A body that has been very professionally restored, exactly as the car was one of the first (probably even the third produced) to leave the factory in Aveley.
It goes without saying that the ****** also meets all safety requirements by, among other things, installing a 6-point roll cage, retro seats with Willans 4-point seat belts. The navigator can even have a much sought after original steel Halda Twinmaster.
We can of course discuss the driving and experience in detail. But…. we hardly have words for that. How can you explain what this car does to you? How all the car enthusiast fibers in your body work at full speed when you step on the gas. Or take a turn that seems impossible with many other classics? And the sound…We certainly can’t let you hear that. That is why we would like to invite true enthusiasts and serious interested parties to experience this first-hand. That is much nicer than a story on paper.
Everything about this ****** is real and very unique. Finding such a car is already very difficult, but if you are also looking for an original Ford ****** Mk1 RS 1600 Group 2, which has been freshly restored by a renowned specialist, then you are asking for almost the impossible. But with us a lot is possible, and this ‘holy grail’ ****** is ready for you.
