We are delighted to present this lovely, luxurious small saloon car to the market with less than 1, 300 miles covered since a mechanical restoration that included a full engine and gearbox rebuild by Kingsthorpe Precision Engineering. Between 2020 and 2021 the Vanden Plas was also fitted with a new exhaust, fuel pump, carburettor re-furbished wheels with five new tyres and a new carpet set. Finished in Midnight Blue with a Gold coachline, the Vanden Plas is extremely well presented and the lovely grey leather interior embodies the luxury that is implied by the Vanden Plas name and would suggest the recorded mileage of 78300 is likely to be correct.
The name Vanden Plas has always been synonymous with high quality coachbuilding. By the 1960s London based Vanden Plas where a wholly owned subsidy of the British owned motor corporation. Much of their work involved trimming medium and large sized BMC cars to the highest level of specification for the retiring company director used to travelling in a large high quality saloon car. The compact but beautifully appointed Vanden Plas princess range, based on BMCs small front wheel drive saloon represented the highest levels of luxury in a car of this size. With its beautiful hide upholstery, woodwork, and picnic tables many of these small British classic cars featured automatic transmissions which their owners had become used to. The nature of their use often by retired owners means that many low mileage examples have survived.
This excellent driving example has been owned by a Yorkshire based Barrister who has used the car for regular commuting to and from his local train station. It has been enjoyed over the spring, summer and autumn months and has then driven over faultlessly from Harrogate. Now ready for a change, we are pleased to welcome back this delightful example. On the road it is everything one would expect of a high quality, comfortable saloon with a freshly rebuilt engine and gearbox.
