Description
1979 Chrysler Alpine - Seville Orange - Highly Original
Introduced in the late 1970s, the Chrysler Alpine was conceived as a modern, forward-thinking family hatchback, representing Chrysler Europe’s final chapter before the marque’s transition into Talbot ownership. Designed to challenge the established European saloons and hatchbacks of the era, the Alpine combined contemporary styling with practical engineering and today stands as an important landmark in British motoring history.
Here is an exceptional Chrysler Alpine LS, first registered on 16 February 1979, finished in its striking and period-correct Seville Orange exterior with a complementary brown interior. Built at the historic Ryton-on-Dunsmore factory, this example is reputed to be the sole surviving Alpine LS in such fastidious condition and is widely believed to be the last Chrysler-badged Alpine to wear the iconic Pentastar emblem. As such, it represents the definitive end of the Chrysler era, immediately preceding the Talbot takeover and the eventual sale of the brand to Peugeot, elevating this car to the status of a genuinely significant artefact.
The car has had just four previous keepers from new, each clearly dedicated to its careful preservation. It has evidently been cosseted throughout its life and today presents remarkably well, retaining the look and feel of a car that could have just left the factory gates in 1979. The interior remains particularly impressive, reflecting the careful stewardship of its custodians and sympathetic use over the decades.
The accompanying history file is both extensive and reassuring. Included is the original period owner’s handbook, along with an exhaust supply receipt booklet dating back to 1982, stamped annually through to 1984. The service booklet is fully stamped up until 1993, with further servicing supported by a comprehensive collection of invoices. Numerous historic MOT invoices are present, providing a clear and traceable record of the car’s continued roadworthiness, while previous V5 documents allow ownership to be followed through its lifetime. Completing the provenance is a certificate from the Rootes Archive Centre Trust, confirming its origins and further underlining its authenticity and historical importance.
Rare, highly original and offered with exceptional documentation, this Chrysler Alpine LS stands as a unique opportunity to acquire a true end-of-era vehicle that encapsulates a pivotal moment in British and European automotive history. Viewing is strictly by appointment only.
