Description
This stunning, subtly upgraded home market Triumph TR5 Pi is the ultimate TR for long-distance European touring, events and regular use. The TR5 was manufactured on the 9th of February 1968 ahead of being supplied new out of Birmingham on the 21st March 1968. Registered MOK 129F, the Triumph comes with an original ‘buff’ logbook and British Motor Industry Heritage Certificate.
The TR5 has spent almost 20 years with its most recent owners who have covered almost 30, 000 miles in the car. It has been regularly toured, with notable trips across the continent to Croatia, Prague, The Netherlands, and Paris. While on the organised tours, there were small sections of regulation rallying when the car won prizes within its class. On a memorable trip to Le Mans Classic, the Triumph was taken for a scenic trip around the track before the racing started. The comprehensive history file details meticulous upkeep throughout its recent ownership ensuring it was always ready for its next trip. Prior to this, the car had been subject of an exceptional body off rebuild to an incredibly high standard. Photographs show the rolling chassis, stripped, bare metal bodyshell and stripped-down engine. The car was completely rebuilt with some upgrades to include triple Weber carbs, alloy sump, unleaded cylinder head, updated driveshafts, high flow Bosch fuel pump, updated starter motor, overdrive logic box, and strengthened chassis. The differential was rebuilt, as was the gearbox.
The result of the rebuild and specification is the most glorious driving TR5. The car now has the provenance of being a well-seasoned, long distance touring car in excellent mechanical order. Many years on since the rebuild and the car still presents beautifully with a structurally excellent chassis and bodyshell, delightful deep paintwork, bright chrome, a lovely interior, smartly presented engine bay, lovely hood and smart set of wire wheels. This is a fantastic car, it's been superbly rebuilt and offers reliable, highly enjoyable classic motoring.
