** Autobianchi A112 1050 Abarth**
** Karl Abarth, on the occasion of the "Saloncino dell'auto sportiva" in 1970, realises a prototype based on the "A112" expressly conceived for racing**. The last autonomous creation of Karl Abarth, the prototype was an attempt to persuade FIAT to provide the mechanical underpinnings to build, in small batches, cars for privateer drivers, economically reviving the glorious Scorpion badge. This did not happen: the Turin giant rejected the idea of commissioning an expensive race car, but ** Karl Abarth's solutions were adopted to create the sport version of the "A112", *** which countered the success of the "Mini Cooper"**. Two FIAT-built prototypes, one *** 63 HP with conventional head and the other 74 HP with a radial head, carried out the first road tests in January 1971, just as FIAT was concluding the deal to acquire Abarth.
