Initially built with the expectation of being a homologation special produced in limited quantities, the first-generation 911 Turbo (internal designation 930) proved an immense success in terms of sales and marketing clout. After two years in production, Porsche elected to continue developing the model. For 1978, the Turbo 3. 3 was announced. Featuring a larger displacement, an air-to-air intercooler, a re-profiled “tea tray” rear spoiler, and larger, more powerful brakes, the car rewarded enthusiasts with exceptional power and incredible performance. Due to changing emissions regulations and the lack of interest by Porsche's executives (due to their focus on the 928), the 911 Turbo was pulled from the US market after 1979.
In an effort to celebrate the last of the 930s delivered the the United States, Porsche North America decided to set the final fifty examples apart from the rest. Denoted by a special plaque affixed to the glovebox and a certificate from Porsche, these final fifty "Signature Series" examples proved to be the last 911 Turbos officially sold on our shores until 1986. Naturally, 'Final 50' examples have proven to be collector icons and investment-grade classics.
The phenomenal 1979 Porsche 930 911 Turbo 3. 3 'Signature Series' Sunroof Coupe featured here is not only one of these “Final 50” cars, but a superlative example showing extremely low mileage and having been fastidiously cared for by just one private owner. Finished in stunning Silver Metallic over a gorgeous Cork (tan) leather interior, this magnificent 911 Turbo is among the most collectible and sought-after Porschea ever to come to market. Accompanying this investment-grade Porsche 930 are its original owner’s manual, original window sticker, original factory brochures, tools, service records, complete Porsche factory workshop manuals, Porsche correspondence and certificate verifying its status as one of the final fifty produced, and its Porsche Production Specifications certificate. I personally believe the investment potential of this 1979 Porsche 911 Turbo 'Signature Series' will grow beyond your imagination. Offered to the most demanding collector, investor, or enthusiast who desires to own one of the very best at an investment price!
