So successful was the early Austin-Healey 3000 in America that by 1963, more than 90% of these cars were sold for export. Less than 11, 000 BT7 2+2s were built in total which makes this original home market car a rarity. We have the Heritage Certificate showing that 899 DYM was supplied new by the famous Car Mart of London. It was built in February 1962 and sold in June that year to its first owner in Barnet, London. It remained in the London area with its second owner until 1980. It then went to Sevenoaks and Worcestershire where it remained until 2022.
It has the really attractive colour combination of Florida Green over Cream. This exact car was the subject of the Oxford Diecast 1/ 76th model issued last year which bears the same reg number. A new boxed model is included with the sale.
Purchased at a cost of £35, 000 three years ago, the new owner embarked a major mechanical rebuild with a well-known Austin-Healey restorer. The file contains invoices since then totalling a staggering £36, 357. 13 in rebuild costs. There is a full photo record of the engine rebuild with +60 pistons, a chemically cleaned engine block, reground +30 big end and main bearings. A new clutch was fitted. The gearbox and overdrive were rebuilt, the brakes overhauled, a heavy-duty starter fitted, big bore manifold and side exhaust system, suspension and other work too extensive to list here. The car is quite literally running in having done only 400 miles since this rebuild. The car is booked in with our paint shop next week for some remedial work following a spillage at the rear of the car. We fully expect this absolute bargain to be sold before then. What an opportunity to buy an early home -market BT7 with this level of investment and provenance!
