Description
AUSTIN HEALEY 3000 MKII BT7 2+2 1962
Produced in 1962 for the American market, this car is part of the new 3000 series, known among collectors as the “Big Healey”, a version that also benefited from a new braking system with discs on the front axle developed by Girling. Also new was the clutch, reinforced, and a different gear ratio for the gearbox. The Austin Healey 3000 was therefore one of the first road cars to adopt this solution. This Big Healey MKII in the classic colour (ice blue and English white) is in the BT7 2+2 configuration. It differs from the first series, which had 125 hp, by the new vertical-slatted grille, the specific air intake on the bonnet and the identifying badges. The engine runs three SU carburettors (instead of the two previously) and has a different cam timing, allowing it to reach a power output of 132 bhpThe car underwent in 2007 a radical restoration, carried out in the Mantuan area, maintaining the original characteristics that allowed the restorer to obtain ASI Gold Plate Type A Group 3 homologation. Used for rallies and reliability trials, it has taken part several times in the Gran Premio Nuvolari and the Giro di Sicilia. Equipped with a tonneau cover, wind deflector, chrome spoke wheels and a battery cut-off switch, it has now undergone a full service (with invoice) and has been passed from our detailing workshop for bodywork preparation and protection. Ready for the first rally that the new owner will want to let it undertake, savouring the sound of the inline six pouring from the side exhaust and flaunting that grit, mixed with the elegance that characterises this model.
