I have recently dismantled the van for re-spraying and the photos show it before and after, but it has a current MOT and Tax. This van is in exceptional condition under the surface with no structural corrosion and very little body rust and would easily make concourse if desired. The gutters are perfect inside and out.. It still has its original seats plus wire mesh cage, tool boxes, interior rear ladder chain and front floor mats. It drives very well with a nice gearbox and has been fully serviced with new brake cylinders, oil change etc. within the last 6 months. Obviously it will need trailering away in its present state.. But it can still be driven.
The last owner had it 34 years and bought it direct from the Post Office. It has been wax-oiled and heavily protected with grease and old oil but unfortunately it has been crudely hand painted and will now need re-spraying. However I cannot stress enough how good it is both structurally and mechanically. The side and rear doors have been removed and dismantled and are all in really super condition. The rear body has been unbolted from the cab but is still attached to the chassis. All the panels are good with the exception of the two front wings that have deteriorated around the headlamp cowlings—in my opinion a couple of new wings would be needed but I have the old ones which could still be refurbished. The wiring loom has been removed from the rear but is still attached to the engine.
Originally the van was based in London and it still has its fleet number stencilled inside the cab. I had intended to restore it to its original livery but I also have a Morris Traveller and common sense and my age has told me that it would not get used very much. It is a very simple and straightforward restoration project which only requires a nice re-spray and putting back together. Everything that has been removed is boxed and labelled and there are plenty of used and new spares.
I have more detailed photos if desired. But the best solution is to come and see it. With the panels off everything is visible so you can see how good it is. I have been involved with Morris’s for a long time and I can categorically say that this is as good a van as you will find prior to re-spraying with no hidden nasty bits. You can either restore it back to a Post Office Van or you can make it into the van you always wanted.
I’m open to offers around the £2900 mark which will allow you to spend money on a re-spray and still be in pocket but if you can do the paintwork yourself then this is an absolute bargain.
