VW Beach Buggy - Sand Rail
This is an advert for our much loved and much unused VW Beach Buggy that we have now decided to sell due to lack of use and a move to another house. The pictures don, t really do it justice as its fantastic to look at , drives brilliantly and turns heads everywhere you go. We have owned this car for about three years now and much though we will miss it have decided its time to go to someone who will enjoy it more -
Ok - the Buggy was made - I believe - by a very proffesional guy in Yeovil
It is based on VW beetle running gear and floor pan then a steel space frame has been made and the bodywork fitted - all the panels are in aluminium and sprayed in 2 pack with an absolutely spot on finish - the frame itself is gloss black and is in 2" tubular steel. All the panels are rivetted and fit just lovely - the roll bar is inclusive of the framework.
Internally the floor is covered in rubber and the dash and instrument panels are made from brushed aluminium plate - the bucket seat are by OMP as are the four point harness's. The instrumentation consists of a speedo - fuel gauge - temperature gauge - oil pressure - voltmeter and all the usual warning lights and they all work - the dash also has a seperate switch for - fuel pump - manual fan overide - spotlights - lights and they all work - the spotlight switch is connected to the 2 KC Daylighters - the horn is a very loud air horn - all electrical wiring has been wired very well and very neatly with all the fuses and relays under the front panel and they are colour coded ! The steering wheel is in red leather. The buggy also comes with two sparco mesh side screens a wet weather cover that clips into place and ties up the side - I also have a complete wet weather cover but have never actually fitted it. Also in the cockpit is a 2 gallon spare fuel can and a fire extinguisher.
The running gear is VW beetle with chrome weller wheels fitted with front 165/ 30/ 15 and bacl Radial GT SR5000 225/ 70/ 15 and it handles very well .
The Buggy is powered by a VW Passat 1800 engine that is married up to the EMPI Beetle gearbox (lovely smooth gear change) the engine is lovely and sweet and makes it really very quick and responsive to drive in comparison to some normal beetle engined buggies - the radiator sits behind the driver and has a manual fan and automatic on a thermostat - the exhaust is a cut down motorbike end can with a stainless fitting and it sounds bloomin lovely - very roarty. The engine is mounted on its own frame that just unbolts to remove the engine.
This buggy is outstanding in everyway and I cannot fault it at all and anybody who is after a really cool - fast - reliable - well made - and totally unique car then this is the one for you.
The Beach Buggy will have 12 months MOT which I will do this week - it is classed as a historic vehicle and is therefore Tax exempt but is currently on a sorn - the insurance is around about 100. 00 per annum but mine has expired at present so the buyer will have to insure it to tax it - you can drive away and I would trust it to drive anywhere in the UK though I won't put a gurantee on that .
This is a car not to be missed and I guarantee you will not be dissapointed.
