Description
This is a 1968 example which has been my pride and joy since 2005, Bought as a project car minus Engine and Gearbox and was collected from Stockport ! This has had serious amounts of time and money spent on Her as I never thought I would have to sell it..
She Drives well and has been upgraded to the bigger 930 engine which is smoother, stronger and faster than the normal 875 unit. It pulls well and starts on the button.
The Engine Block has been breathed upon by Andy Jones of Shrigley Engineering, It also received new rings, Mains and Oil Pump, Andy did a superb job and would highly recommend him.
The Sport Cylinder Head is to Stage 3 spec with all 8 valves converted to run on Unleaded Fuel, new valve guides, porting and gas flowed with Big Valves (By Reg Patton Engines cost of £600. 00, receipt will be included in the sale ).
As all the main and expensive work has been done on the Head you could unleash even more power from a more wild Camshaft R17/ R21, (which was my next to do job) it currently has a re-profiled Sport Cam by Reg. He can also source the required Cam for you.
New Electronic Stealth Distributor
It has the correct Stromberg twin Carburettors but overhauled with new seals in Vitron (cost over £150 from Gower and Lee) which do not dissolve with modern fuels, New fuel pump. It currently has twin mesh air filters but the correct Sport Air Box will be included if the buyer wants it.
The Cooling system has a New High Efficiency Radiator with electric fan, also has a Kawasaki Motorcycle Front Radiator. (Imps have a tendency to over heat, Even on a Blistering Hot day, it has never got close to the half way mark !) New Water Pump.
Front Disc Brake conversion (Micra Discs and BMW Calipers, They stop well without dangerously locking the front wheels) . New Brake Servo. New Master Cylinders for Brake, Clutch and rear cylinders and shoes.
New alloy Wheels and Tyres including the spare, The old 12" wheels will be included in the sale including the hard to find Sunbeam Hub Caps if buyer wants them.
BMW rotoflex conversion by David Llewellyn Imp Motorsport, (including new bolts) much better than the original metalastic items which self destruct.
New Vinyl Roof. New chrome Door Handles and Bonnet Hinges
It has the original and hard to find Amble-air Seats which were expensively overhauled, with new side and back panels by a local trimmer. However the original seat faces are over 40 years old, a small part of the Drivers seat is starting to wear (about an inch long).
Boot carpet.
Locking Engine lid (hard to find).
There is no rust on this car and the floors have received a number of coats of Hammerite, / Por 15 and matches the body colour underneath.
The Bad Bits
The Paint work (in VW Spice Red) shines well and looks good from a distance but if you want concourse It could really do with a re-spray, this was done in my rather cramped Garage. With a proper paint job the body wont be far off concourse !.
A previous owner has fitted a Sunroof, which whilst not original is a bonus in Hot Weather, (Imps can get very Hot inside).
The Brand New Spare wheel and tyre I recently bought sadly does not fit in the wheel well (I kept the old 12" wheel as a spare which fits) also the wheel arrived in anthracite colour instead of silver. As mentioned the old original wheels will be included.
My Stiletto was never intended to be a concourse show ornament but a fun car to be driven, It has been to many shows (and not so local, Moffat is over 300 mile trip) It has always received many compliments, It has a fresh MOT, and is of course tax exempt.
As you can see by this list of new parts this is a reluctant sale of quite rare Stiletto which is the top of the range of Hillman Imp Family. Stiletto's are getting hard to find now especially in this condition, I wasn't expecting to sell this but will be loosing my storage Hence it must go.
Car is located at DH6, whilst I live at DH4. I work long hours so if your wishing to view (recommended) it will be after 6pm during the week, depending on shifts Saturday afternoon should be ok and Sunday but should be ok with txts or calls, the details below,
I will put together a cd full of pictures since it has been in my hands to show you just how much work has gone into this car.
Please No Timewasters or swaps/ Part Exchangers,
