Ferrari’s iconic 308 is perhaps one of the most instantly recognizable sports cars of all time. The 308 was Ferrari’s first major commercial success, popularized in television and movies.
The 308GTB was intended to be a replacement for the rather unloved 308GT4, and was seen as more of a spiritual successor to the glorious 246GT.
The beautiful styling was penned by Leonardo Fiovaranti at Pininfarina, which was in stark contrast to the angular Bertone-styled GT4, and it featured soft curves, a buttressed roofline and signature sculpted air inlets in the doors.
The 308 GTB QV, (Quattrovalve, simply, four valve) was better than ever and remains among the most desirable of the series for collectors and serious drivers alike. Power was raised to 240 bhp (179 kW). Apart from the 32-valve cylinder heads, the V8 engine was essentially of the same design as that used in the 308 GTSi model. Total displacement was 2, 926 cc (179 cu in), with a bore and stroke of 81 mm (3. 2 in) x 71 mm (2. 8 in).
The new model could be recognized by the addition of a slim louvered panel in the front lid to aid radiator exhaust air exit, power operated mirrors carrying a small enamel Ferrari badge, a redesigned radiator grille with rectangular driving lights on each side, and rectangular (in place of round) side repeaters. The interior also received some minor updates, such as a satin black three spoke steering wheel with triangular centre.
This example comes with a history file and service records and will make a fine addition to any Ferrari collection.
