Beschreibung
We would like to introduce you to a very special beautiful campervan Matilda.
She has the classic lines of one of the rare original ‘Tin Tops’, unspoilt by any pop-up roof addition.
Her bodywork is in excellent condition throughout.
Having spent the first thirty years of her life ‘down under’, her underneath is genuinely completely sound. This also means she is the much more convenient right hand drive.
Her beautiful real wood and cream kitchen cabinet, rear cupboard, and dining table have a genuine 70’s feel, added to by detailed trims lovingly hand-crafted from driftwood gathered from North Devon beaches near her current home.
Gorgeous orange and cream paintwork... vintage 70’s flower pattern curtains... original cream and orange seats...
Altogether these things give her a unique character combining classic quality campervan with something of that wonderful driftwood beach feel. She’s a modest old girl, yet when people look at her and go ‘wow’, we are sure she swells with pride.
As expected she has just sailed through a new MOT, valid until end of April 2018.
Being born in 1976, as of this month road tax is free.
And now - sad for us but great news for her new owners - it is time for Matilda to find another loving home and new friends to take away on many fresh adventures. Her pots and pans and everything you need are packed and ready and she is eager to set off!
OUTSIDE
My goodness – I can’t decide whether to start with her bodywork or her underneath...
One of the most remarkable things about Matilda is that her underneath has never had any welding, has no sign of needing any, and if looked after should continue just the same.
We have never seen another camper like her.
Talk to anyone who dreads that annual MOT welding bill for their camper, and you will understand just how invaluable this is.
She has a protective coat of underseal/ waxoil mix. Now two years old, this is thinning in places and she’s due for another, but I have deliberately left this so that any prospective purchaser can see just how good she is beneath the underseal
.
As you can see, her orange and cream paintwork looks perfect right where she belongs - on the beach! Over the past two years all her body panels have been completely professionally restored and re-sprayed by a local classic car specialist. Even her battery tray – a place that goes on every camper – has been replaced.
On her body panels we can find no sign of rust anywhere. We have many more close-up photos which can be viewed via the one drive link near the end of this description.
Classic porsche black and silver alloys in great condition, the same style as originally fitted in the 70’s
Four good tyres. Winter treads on the rear to get you out of any muddy campsite. Full size brand new spare.
Classic traditional three bow wooden slatted roof rack.
She even comes complete with an awning, so if you’re travelling with five everyone can have a place to sleep.
ENGINE
Her original engine was replaced in 2014 with a two litre fully reconditioned engine, 13, 000 miles ago. Starts every time, and even in Devon there’s no hill she can’t sail up with that indispensable little extra power of the two litre engine!
To keep her in excellent running order, since buying her in April 2014 we have attended to her every mechanical need, including recent new alternator.
She comes with a new oil change.
INSIDE
Five seats, three with three point seat belts.
Locally collected driftwood handles and subtle trim pieces to complete the theme.
Silentgliss curtain rails with new curtains and matching cushions in the original vintage 70’s Fab flower design fabric.
Headliner all in good, clean condition.
Stainless steel ink unit with 12 volt Water pump.
Fully working heater, all pipes in place underneath vehicle.
DINING
Stainless steel four ring gas hob.
New buddy seat in the same gorgeous cream and orange as her original seats.
She comes with an additional fold-away seat to give four seats around the table.
Complete foldaway campervan cutlery set. Melamine dinner set with camping design.
Her compact driftwood-trimmed table attaches to her floor for dining or for evening ( or possibly the occasional rainy day? ) family games. I wish I could say ‘gathered around the log fire’, but we have found her bright and warm friendly atmosphere to be just as homely.
ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT
Kenwood stereo.
Two 12 volt lights and 12 volt socket.
Electric hook up with long lead, 13 amp socket, leisure battery with split charge relay and mains hook up charger.
Electric fridge, 12/ 240 volt – to install a full three way fridge required cutting a vent into her bodywork which felt almost a crime.
AND SO TO SLEEP...
She can sleep two adults in her cosy rock and roll bed – not the modern cushion-covered plywood imitation but the original fully upholstered bench seat.
She has a child’s hammock that attaches across the front cab, suitable for up to age seven.
With the addition of two or three beds in her awning she can sleep all her five passengers.
She has a complete set of thermal blackout window pads - great for keeping the warm in the winter or snoozing a little later on a bright sunny morning!
MATILDA’S FAULTS
Her driver’s seat has a very small repair on either side. That’s the only thing I can find.
