Description
This replica, built by a retired aircraft toolmaker, took some 1500 hours to complete over a 3 year period. It is based on a Honda CB400-4 frame modified to accept the CBR250RR DOHC MC14E engine, but retains the original V5 & reg number with the MC14E engine number entered.
The front modified 9" Grimeca hub & the rear GT750 one are laced to flanged alloy rims with stainless steel spokes. The alloy tank is by Peter Kyte who made the tanks for the George Beale's £300, 000 'Six' reps. The fairing & seat are fibreglass. There are innumerable brackets, gussets, tubes, instrument / fairing support, the brake & gear levers, catch tank and front CB400 front sliders that are faithfully manufactured or modified to match the original 'Six' items. The 4 into 6 fully operational exhaust system was the most difficult item and took me over 2 months to manufacture / fit, but what a great sound.
The bike was featured in both Motor Cycle News and Classic Motorcycle Mechanics and also won 'Best Race Bike in Show' at the Bristol Classic Motorcycle Show. It has featured in the Grand Prix Paddock at the Stafford International Classic Show, and in the Mallory Park 1000 Bikes Past Masters / RC replica demonstration. More recently it attended the Mike Hailwood weekend at Castle Combe. It has therefore being used for mostly static events with a few parades.
This is therefore an unique and rare opportunity to purchase a machine capable of being used on the public roads with a daytime MoT (currently on SORN) as there is a 'road going kit' included that has the 1976 reg number / plate and an additional modified standard 4 into 1 exhaust system, or you could risk the mega's!
There is a documentation pack re the build / contacts for shows, etc. There is a side stand (as in rear view pic) and a rear one that hooks on the fitted 'cotton reels'. It has a remote car battery starter pack, or easy to start by being 'paddled' in 2nd gear.
