FOR SALE: A wonderful restoration has just been carried out on this Dolomite by a former engine maker of Ilmor Engineering, now known as Mercedes-Benz AMG High Performance Powertrains in Brixworth, Northamptonshire. This no-expense spared restoration has been done to the highest standards and this is evident in person, with receipts totalling over £11, 000.

EXTERIOR
The Russet Brown exterior paint is in as new condition on this Dolomite, as one would expect with a fresh restoration. The paintwork is in beautiful order and has a glass-like shine and clarity throughout. There is no rust, blemishes or scratches. All light lenses and trim retain a fresh appearance. The vehicle throughout is a completely solid example and the photos in the link provided show this, with photos taken on the ramp.

INTERIOR
The Beige Cloth is in lovely original condition throughout, with minimal wear to be found. The carpet, trim, switches are in great condition. The dashboard and centre console are also in equally fine condition, with no cracks or sun damage to be found.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
This Dolomite 1500 HL is powered by a completely overhauled engine, mated to the four-speed manual gearbox. The work on this carried out involved: Engine: cylinder block was stripped, core plugs and oil gallery bungs removed, then bottle brushed and flexhoned, hot caustic washed, steam cleaned and checked for cracks/ damage. It was then rebored + 020”, new pistons, bores finish honed to size, PTFE coating applied to skirts, balanced to within one gram of each other, ring gaps checked and adjusted as required. Crankshaft: hot caustic washed, flexhoned, shot peened, lightened, oil ways detailed and reshaped, reground 010”/ 010” and polished. Conrods lightened, checked for cracks, twist and bend, shot peened and balanced end to end and all four are within one gram of each other. New Piper cam ground from a blank, new Piper followers, duplex timing gears and chain, correctly timed in as per the specifications. Cylinder Head: stripped, hot caustic washed, unleaded seats fitted, combustion chamber cc’s checked and adjusted to within 0. 2 of a cc, head face machined to correct the compression ratio which when removed was 8. 6:1 and is now 9. 1:1 (a little above standard), new guides, valves and Piper single springs are fitted along with new rocker shaft, new bronze bushed rockers (honed to size). All ports/ manifolds have been gas flowed and matched to the head, ARP head studs, custom built windage tray, new oil pump which has been stripped, checked including removal of all casting flash internally and correct alignment of oil way to block mating face, sump pan has been hot washed and is clinically clean! The engine has undergone a full balance, crank, rods, pistons, pins, rings, front pulley, flywheel and clutch cover. A new Borg and Beck 3 piece clutch kit has also been fitted, new clutch master and slave cylinders, rebuilt alternator, starter motor and distributor (converted to electronic). A new radiator, water pump, water hoses, inlet manifold transfer pipe removed and replaced with a stainless steel item. The carburettors have been completely rebuilt with new genuine SU kits of the non waxstat type. The gearbox has been rebuilt with new bearings and seals. The overdrive unit has been reconditioned by Overdrive Spares of Rugby. The propshaft has been rebuilt, new universal joints, centre bearing and rebalanced by Dave Mac of Coventry. A full stainless steel exhaust system including custom built tubular stainless manifold with four bolt flange fitting. The engine bay is in as new order throughout and is beautiful to look at.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
New steering, suspension ball joints and universal joints have been fitted, with new Avo adjustable coil overs. All suspension components, front sub frame and rear axle casing have been powder coated and fitted with a complete set of Superflex bushes. New brakes all round, reconditioned master cylinder, EBC front discs and pads, reconditioned Girling callipers, new wheel cylinders, brake shoes, brake pipes, braided hoses, handbrake cables. The 13-inch alloy wheels are in as new condition, having just been completely refurbished and are shod in a set of brand new 185 x 60 x R13 Toyo Proxes fitted with new wheel nuts/ washers.

HISTORY
This Dolomite 1500 HL was first registered in March 1980 and has a large file present, with receipts and invoices from over the years, and all the invoices and receipts in regards to the restoration. It is believed that the mileage is correct, with only 3 previous owners, it is clear this has been a car enjoyed by each owner. Photographic evidence before the restoration, during and after is present. I cannot stress highly enough how much this car needs to be seen in person to appreciate the time and effort gone into this restoration. The 1500 engine is the smoothest and quietest one I have heard. This just shows you how well this car has been restored by the former engine maker of Ilmor Engineering, now known as Mercedes-Benz AMG High Performance Powertrains in Brixworth, Northamptonshire. This car is ready to be enjoyed on our roads.
