Ford Consul Mk 1 – Prize Winning Car
The first generation Ford Consul was introduced in 1950 Motor Show and marked the start of Ford’s successful attack on the family saloon car market. The new Consul featured monocoque construction, OHV 1508cc engine, MacPherson Strut front suspension and three speed column change gear box. The cars trans-Atlantic styling proved popular with public and press alike and the car was an immediate success.
Our Consul is the quintessential time-warp example having covered just 47, 000 from new and is absolutely as it left the factory. The original purchase invoice, buff log book along with all MOT’s from 1962, running-in guide, owner’s handbook, sales brochure, petrol coupons etc. are in the history folder. The Consul even retains the original “Eko” radio that was fitted a week after purchase for just over £35 – a month’s salary in 1953
Body panel fitment is original/ excellent and the Fawn Green cellulose paintwork has survived remarkably well with only the odd blemish from storage and exhibition. The chassis is, as you would expect, absolutely rock solid and bright-work is excellent. The interior is every bit as good as the exterior with a new roof lining/ carpets and original red leather upholstery.
On the road the car drives perfectly with excellent steering, brakes and smooth three speed column gear change. We recommend early viewing in order to fully appreciate this remarkable survivor.
