Wolseley 16/ 60 Farina – 42, 000 Miles/ 3 Owners
The Wolseley 16/ 60 was aimed at the aspirational middle-class buyer. Upholstery was in leather with individual front seats that were set closely together to allow a central passenger to be carried. The rear seat had a folding central armrest, wood veneer was used on the fascia and door capping’s with a duo-tone two colour paint offered as an optional extra.
On 12th April 1969 Major Percy Olney traded his Wolseley 4/ 44 in against a brand new 16/ 60 that cost £1, 007…he was clearly a Wolseley man. He chose the duo-tone Alaskan Blue/ Snowberry White colour scheme with Reef Blue leather interior with two options - seat belts and the new reflective number plates that were fashionable at the time.
The Wolseley was used very sparingly and covered just 23, 000 miles in his ownership before it passed to his daughter – who never drove the car. The last keeper, a naval engineer, bought the car from Major Olney’s daughter in 1990 and commenced a rolling re-commissioning exercise. This included inspection, refurbishment or replacement of mechanical components, cutting out all corrosion, letting in new metal (including lead loading) as required and painting the car in the original cellulose two-tone colour scheme.
Today the 16/ 60 is one of the most original Farina’s that you could wish to own. Mechanically the car has wanted for nothing over the last 27 years, the bodywork is lovely, the interior is simply like stepping back in time and under the bonnet, as you would expect, present very well. The history folder contains original Order Form, Driver’s Handbook, Passport to Service, period sales literature and photographs of work carried out in the 1990’s and all MOT’s since 1992.
The Wolseley 16/ 60 is one of the rarest Farina models that you will find. This utterly original car is a real testament to the skills of the last owner and she will provide years of pleasure to the lucky new owner
