Hexagon Classics are delighted to offer this rare 5-speed manual, left-hand drive Aston Martin V8. To quote Aston Martin’s own publicity material at the time, “Here’s styling and power, lovingly conceived by individuals intent on achieving the ultimate in touring car perfection.” This is truly one of the greatest of all the modern sports classics.
Sleek in profile and magnificently broad head-on, sitting squarely on 7” wide alloy wheels – appropriately vented to assist brake cooling. This is 4-seater luxury – Grand touring style. The first Aston Martin model to drop the ‘DBS’ type letters, since David Brown’s departure from the factory. The fuel injected cars were only produced between April 1972 and June 1973.
The engine capacity of 5, 340cc employs 4 overhead camshafts developing nearly 400 lb/ ft. torque at 4, 500 rpm. Charged with Bosch fuel injectors, the V8 has a 9:1 compression ratio. Opening the Aston Martin up on the road, the V8’s handling and roadholding characteristics well match its performance. Its positive, power assisted rack and pinion steering and increased final drive ratio, make this a responsive, relaxing car to drive. Total time to 100 mph and back to rest is well under 20 seconds. Maximum speed is over 150 mph.
The Coolaire air conditioning system was custom designed for the Aston Martin V8. The bucket type front seats have a vernier reclining adjustment with a squab locking restraint. Lockable glove box, collapsible sun visors, laminated safety glass windscreen, curved side windows and Sundym glass were also added to the standard equipment.
Aston Martin Heritage specialists, Aston Engineering, have just completed a comprehensive restoration that includes a high-performance exhaust that produces an extra 30 bhp. A complete re-trim in the original quality Connolly Vaumol VM846 hide, and a glass out re-paint has also been carried out. Complete with its handbook, BMIHT certificate, sales brochure, historic documentation and invoices for recent expenditure, this Aston Martin is an opportunity for anyone looking to own the ultimate Aston Martin V8.
