historic and infamous scheduled ATP Bus Service until the very last day in July 2011.
The bus is based on a Leyland Albion Victor Chassis from the late 50’/ early 60’s which was imported from Mr. Attard of Marsa. Once in service this bus operated under licence no. 2083 and most recently DBY 445. The bus had a seating capacity of 36 but was later extended to 40 passengers seated + more standing passengers.
Recent History:
The bus has been well maintained throughout the recent years of its service. After 2011 it went in dry storage to the current date. Throughout the past 6 years the bus has been completely stripped and overhauled, with no Euro being spared on the restoration. All body panels were refreshed or rebuilt with body work being done by Galea of St. Paul’s Bay. The bus has also been re-painted into it’s original Green Sliema colours.
A new grille has been built, identical to the one which it replaces. The tail lamps of this bus (spanning across the entire rear) have also been re-built, in the same manner as this bus originally was. Thousands have been spent on restoring all chrome parts and chrome plating them again to as new condition!
The driver compartment has been re-manufactered to it’s traditional style, with an old style statue in the corner. All interior veneer has been replaced with new but identical veneer to that as this bus was originally built.
The chassis has been stripped of all paint and repainted in the traditional red colour. Rear and front windscreens have been remanufactured from new aswell. The engine is a Leyland which is in good condition. Axles and differentials are also fully functional and in good condition.
This vehicle is garaged and can be road licenced. In malta the bus can be used for carrying passengers on a non-for profit basis, unless the new owner seeks to liaise with the government for the needed commercial permits.
All that this bus needs is someone with the time to do the final finishing touches such as the upholstery, and a re-vamp of the electrical system(which remains from the last day that the bus was in service).
Based on an expert’s opinion this bus is 95% ready for the true bus enthusiast. If you are looking for real Maltese bus, in pristine condition with a traditional yet elegant style than this is the bus for you. As already said no expense has been spared in bringing this bus back into it’s deserved glory.
