We are delighted to present for sale this charming, previously rebuilt Series 3. This vehicle is in sought after Station Wagon configuration, which includes an interior headliner.
On the outside, there are lots of nice period features such as original galvanised cappings, correct 650 tyres with limestone wheels, and safari roof. Some small modifications have been made to make the vehicle more useable, such as the larger Defender-Style mirrors to aid rear visibility, and a towball and electrics to allow towing of a trailer. The bodywork has survived in relatively straight order, which is nice to see.
On the inside, deluxe matting is fitted in the front, with a load mat to the rear. Alpine Lights and sliding rear windows are fitted, along with rear bench seats to allow seating for seven including the driver. All the seats look to be recent additions, and the cabin has a nice, airy feel which make it a nice place to be - the famed plus point of a station wagon! An interior headliner is fitted to the roof, with air vents - these safari roofs have a two-tier system, allowing air to pass through whilst driving (and keeping the rain and debris out) and was an early form of air-conditioning for hot countries, as cooler air would pass into the cabin from the roof.
Out on the road, this old girl drives as it should, perhaps due to the evident previous rebuild that has been undertaken on it. It gives a pleasant period driving experience, and the popular colour configuration makes it recognisable wherever it goes! It has super light steering thanks to the smaller tyres, and indicates that this vehicle is well set-up. The diesel engine starts with minimal glow and drives nicely, and a newly reconditioned gearbox is fitted with synchromesh on all gears, meaning it feels tight and slick and is a joy to use. The Galvanised Chassis also gives peace of mind that periodic welding will not be required as with original vehicles of this age, and adds to the desirability of the truck as a whole.
In summary then, if you are looking for a rebuilt Series 3 that should stand the test of time, whilst transporting the whole family in comfort, then this could be for you. With the popular colour scheme, safari roof and a Galvanised Chassis, it should prove a sound investment, whilst also being cheap to run with classic insurance.
