This is a rare original survivor of only 49 examples built to this design with the distinctive lightweight aluminium coachwork with beautiful razor edged design, everything from the bonnet back is bespoke. This design is much more rakish than the standard steel saloons and more spacious as the body is wider, the full rear hinged door arrangement aids access. A number of unique features to this motor car are the 4x armrests in the front seat backs, the well engineered 4x winding opening quarterlights, the chrome trim on the inside edge of the doors, the slim chrome window frames, the opening front scuttle vent and cutaway rear spats. It has a rare early raised centre spot light with B logo behind the glass and the early style hub caps as well as a opening sliding sunroof.
Very good usable condition, there are minor marks on the paintwork, it was completely repainted in the 1960’s. The chrome is all complete and also shows minor marks, The interior is in very smart useable condition, the leather and carpets are original, the woodwork is in very good condition and the door trims have straight grain crossbanding inlay. All the doors and the boot close with ease and precision that is unique to the this coachbuilt style due to the angle of the hinges. The 4, 257 straight six engine starts on the first push of the button and sounds lovely and quiet and performs superbly as do the brakes and the gearbox, no journey would worry the owner.
The rare original under dashboard tool tray is almost complete as well as the large tools under the boot, It has rear folding picnic tables which are very useful and modern indicators have been fitted. The original radio and Flying B Radiator Mascot Cap remain with the car. We have receipts for expenditure, copies of the build sheets including the original purchase from Jack Barclay in London as well as old M. O. T.’s and other information.
Stanley Sedgwick, the famous past president of the B. D. C. covered over 90, 000 miles in his Mark 6 and once drove one 707 miles in one day, taking a total time of 15 hours 50 minutes from Le Havre to Cannes which was faster than the famous Blue Train which took 17 hours 39 minutes.
