The Appeal
Aston Martin has the James Bond connection, but the real celebrity GT of the '60s and '70s is the Jensen Interceptor. Considered, when new, to be less ‘arriviste’ than the Newport Pagnell cars, the hand-built, MOPAR-powered West Brom fastback was the choice of everyone from John Bonham to Cliff Richard.
Jensen guru Richard Calver calls the 1971-73 Series III the ‘peak of Interceptor development’ for its blend of improved cosmetics, better braking and extra comfort. The first ones continued with the 383CI 6.3L Chrysler engine of the Series II. This car is one of those rarities. It was originally one of the 10 Series III cars painted yellow, but is now finished in the more popular Brienz Blue metallic following a 1980s restoration.
Inside and out, this is a really tidy Interceptor. There are a few minor points to note in the photos, but a recent advisory-free voluntary MOT test indicates that these are cosmetic rather than of particular concern. The history file is impressive, showing regular attention by model experts Cropredy Bridge. The vendor acquired the car in 2012 and has used it very sparingly, only every in the dry and carefully garaged in between. He tells us that the car has recently had £5,000 of work to the suspension, cooling system and other mechanical areas.
Few 70s cars ooze the style and sheer burbling presence of a good Interceptor. Here’s a chance to engage with all that celebrity cool.
The vendor says:
“The car is lovely to drive and always draws admiring glances, engine sounds fantastic. Overall a good solid car with a little bit of wear and tear.”

The car presents well overall with a tidy interior, functioning electrics, and good road manners. The bodywork would benefit from cosmetic attention in a few places. There is likely to be a degree of corrosion in the structural beams/inner sill sections (which is a well known issue with Interceptors) but as these components are partly concealed the full extent of the metalwork required has not been established and prospective buyers should assume that repairs will be necessary at some point in the medium term. Importantly, the car starts, drives, stops and behaves as expected and has been kept in good running order.
