The Appeal
It may not look like a technological marvel, but the Citroën 2CV profoundly shaped automotive history from its launch. Thanks to its ingenious long-travel suspension system, remarkable simplicity and practical qualities, it proved perfectly suited to a war-torn Europe eager to get back on the road.
It is therefore hardly surprising that it became one of the most iconic and popular cars in history, with over four decades of production and a single generation that evolved significantly over the years.
With its 425cc air-cooled engine, "suicide" doors, manual starting mechanism and four-speed gearbox, the AZ offers a particularly simple and authentic driving experience, far removed from anything modern automobiles offer. Enthusiasts continue to find it possesses an evocative and irresistible charm.
This particular example has remained in the same family since the 1960s, having originally been purchased from a doctor at a time when automobiles were still relatively rare and difficult to obtain.
The car was comprehensively restored approximately ten years ago, with photographic documentation covering the various stages of the work. It is presented in a rare beige colour and benefits from a period-correct domed boot, fitted to increase load capacity.
Since its restoration, it has been kept in a garage and used only for occasional Sunday outings. Recently prepared for sale, it is ready to return to the road and is accompanied by a selection of original accessories and spare parts.

✓ We also check whether vehicles are registered as written off as a result of a total loss at the time the listing is placed on Car & Classic and we provide write-off category labels (Cat C/D/S/N) to help you. The presence or absence of a label does not, however, guarantee the status of the vehicle and it is always useful to carry out a full vehicle history check before making an offer on it.
