Phasing out the popular 190 SL Roadster, Mercedes-Benz had a tough act to follow. Success was on the horizon however, as in 1964 the classic Paul Bracq-penned two-seater luxury roadster coupe known as the “Pagoda Roof” was released and it is still considered one of the most desirable and collectible classics of today.
The rarest of the range was the 250 SL, secretly known as the connoisseur’s choice due to limited production between 1966-1968 where only 5, 196 units were sold worldwide.
Over its predecessor the 230 SL, the 250’s all new 2. 5-litre engine had just a little more horsepower however torque was improved making the engine more flexible and responsive. Its performance was further enhanced by aid of rear disc brakes and a larger capacity cooling system.
