The Austin A60 was launched in 1961 with a 1622cc version of the ?B? series OHV engine first seen in the MGA. It was discontinued in 1969, two years before the Morris Oxford. Approximately 275, 000 were produced making them the best selling model of the Farina cars but most have disappeared; their exceptional body strength made them very popular on the banger racing circuit when values were low in the 70?s and 80?s.
This car is a 1967 Austin A60 saloon in Carlton Grey with a Cumulus Grey flash. The mileage is correct at just 24, 000 from new backed up by a comprehensive set of MOT certificates going back to 1973 when the mileage was 6000. The first owner bought the car new in 1967 and averaged less than a thousand miles a year until 2000, the second owner covered just 4000 miles. It was off the road between 2000 and 2019. The third owner bought the car in 2022 and did some re-commissioning work but sadly passed away without the chance to enjoy it. The history file contains the aforementioned 30 old MOT certificates, original order form, bill of sale, brochure, accessories brochure and passport to service as well as copies of the older registration documents from the first two owners and the latest new style document.
The underside is in remarkable condition and has never been welded and the upper body shows the crisp factory lines of an original car. The interior has been partially re-trimmed, the seats have been re-covered in vinyl to the correct original pattern and the carpet set is an expensive replacement in good condition. The under-bonnet also presents well and it has been usefully fitted with an MGB brake servo which transforms the stopping power. It runs and drives beautifully and we have just carried out and engine service and a long list of minor cosmetic jobs, it is running and driving beautifully.
This low mileage A60 is something of a find. It is excellent but not concours - there are one or two minor cosmetics that could be improved and the odd minor imperfection and touch in to the paintwork close up. It is however, a world away from the bodged up and tired examples and one of just a handful of these cars left in unmolested condition with excellent provenance.
