Introduced in 2001, the Maserati GT was an evolution of the 1998 3200 GT, offered in both Coupé and Spyder body layouts and developed to mark Maserati’s return to the US market.

It shared the same sleek monocoque body as the 3200, but with more conventional rear lights and a larger engine – this time a 4.2-litre V8 Ferrari-developed unit, with 385bhp.
 
Built and sold in limited numbers, the 4200 GT is a rare beast and also an alluringly pretty one that is bound to be a wise investment for the future, especially one as nice as this example.

It’s a 2005 4200 GT Cambiocorsa (Italian for ‘racing change’) and uses a sequential clutchless semi-automatic transmission based on the system developed by Ferrari’s F1 team. It uses a Formula One-type gearbox, built by Graziano Trasmissioni, with hydraulic operation and electronic management operated by F1-style paddles behind the steering wheel, similar to the system used in Ferrari sports cars.
 
The system allows the driver to choose between four different operating modes: Normal, Sport, Auto and Low Grip. Each of these programs is selected by means of console-mounted buttons, corresponding to different types of operating mode.
 
Finished in iconic Azzuro Nettuno (Neptune Blue), the Cambiocorsa is a genuine low mileage car with just under 35k on the clock, a third of which has been covered by the current owner who has had the car since 2017.

It has a comprehensive maintenance record and has been looked after during its current ownership by McGrath Maserati, one of the UK’s most respected independent specialists in the marque. The vendor is a long-term Maserati fan and also owns an older 1960s example, which he wants to use more often, hence why the newer car is for sale.
