The Attractions

Introduced in 1929, the Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 enjoyed unforgettable triumphs in every major sporting event in which it participated, including the gruelling Mille Miglia, where it was driven by Giuseppe Campari and Giulio Ramponi. The 6C also won the following year, and also dominated the 24 Hours of Spa.

This was clearly a formidable racing car, and Alfa Romeo knew that race victories would lead to great sales success. A total of 2,635 examples were produced, and in keeping with the custom of the time, leading coachbuilders were commissioned to create numerous versions tailored to their most demanding customers.

As historic racing cars are highly sought-after today, many coupés or saloons of the 6C 1750 have since been transformed into Gran Sport replicas, and as excellent as these cars are, it is very rare to find an original touring version like this one.

This 1932 example was bodied by Carrozzeria Touring of Milan. While many saloon bodies of the period were rather ungainly, Touring's design was elegant, sleek and sporty, with a low roofline and sinuous curves. This car was part of the Forgione collection for more than twenty years, during which time it was regularly started up and maintained, but rarely driven. It has a very attractive patina, perfect for a car of this era, and the restoration it has received in the past has matured nicely. We are told that it runs perfectly and is ready for its next keeper.

History and Documentation

  • Still fitted with vintage black and white Italian plates
  • Registered with ASI
  • Odometer shows 2,836 km
  • Has been part of the Forgione Collection for over twenty years
  • Restored in the past before being acquired by the current owner
  • Mainly used to attend local events and for a few Sunday rides

Conditions

  • Two-door Berlinetta bodywork corrected for the period by Touring
  • Finished in a classic red and black colour scheme, with fabric-covered roof
  • The restoration received in the past shows a slight patina
  • No noticeable signs of wear, damage or corrosion
  • Tyres look rather old
  • Indicators and rear lights have been tastefully and discreetly installed
  • Luxurious red velour upholstery with very slight signs of wear
  • Swiss-made Jaeger instruments
  • Electric windscreen wipers have been installed
  • Curtains for rear passengers
Many years have passed since the restoration of this Alfa, which now has a uniform and attractive patina. The bodywork appears very correct overall and the doors are well aligned, with no visible problems. The paintwork has some flaws, scratches and chips as is to be expected. Its state of preservation makes it a very usable car, and if it were up to us, we would not change anything.

There are no obvious signs of excessive corrosion on the body or chassis, nor any signs of accident damage. Even the chrome plating shows a slight patina and remains perfectly usable. The spoke wheels present themselves well, while the tyres look rather old.

The interior shows very few signs of wear and has evidently been reupholstered to a very high standard over the years. A beautiful, luxurious red velvet covers almost every surface except the dashboard. Everything appears to be extremely original, with no signs of wear or deterioration to report. Even the intricate woodwork is superbly presented, as are the original controls and Jaeger instruments.

The Mechanics

  • In-line six-cylinder twin overhead camshaft engine of 1,752 cm³
  • Four-speed manual gearbox
  • Started and regularly maintained by the current owner
  • We have been informed that the car is in good running order with no problems to report
One could admire this splendid twin-shaft engine for hours. It is truly a work of art.
There is a very specific reason why Alfa Romeo collected so many sporting successes, and that is that it could count on very talented designers. The 1750 was the second generation of the 6C (short for six cylinders), and was more powerful than its ancestor, with a top speed of 153 km/h.

The chassis was designed to flex over rough surfaces, as the roads were in poor condition at the time and the circuits were sometimes even worse! This solution ensured that the driving wheels maintained traction, road holding was more composed and passengers enjoyed greater comfort.

The compact twin-shaft inline six-cylinder was a gem of an engine, far more advanced than the four-cylinder rods and rockers offered by the competition.
This car has not been driven very often in the last twenty years, but it has been regularly started and carefully maintained along with the other cars in its owner's collection. During our photo shoot it proved to be efficient and drove without any problems.
