The Appeal
The pre-war SS Jaguar 1.5L saloon was so good, and in particular so good-looking, that it only required an appropriate name change for production to continue after the war. Later cars like this one got the larger 1.8L version of the Standard OHV motor.
Retrospectively known as the MkIV, this 1947 is an original RHD factory car that was first delivered to the South of France in September of that year. It is a really handsome car with its black over Old English White colour scheme. The paintwork was part of a four-year refresh completed by the current keeper after he acquired the car in France in 2020. Other work included restoring the brakes, steering, body, axle, engine and wiring.
With little time and few miles since that work, it presents very well today and is in great running order. The interior is the correct factory burgundy finish and has a lovely patina to the leather, while outside, there are a few light signs of age that add character. The restoration was clearly sympathetic rather than erasing this car’s charm.
This MkIV looks like a sure-fire classic car show hit, but there is obvious potential as a commercial wedding car. Whichever route you choose, it promises a very characterful experience.
