The Appeal

The 1967 Shelby GT500 occupies a hallowed place in the American muscle car pantheon. The first year Carroll Shelby shoehorned the mighty 428 Police Interceptor V8 into the Mustang platform, the GT500 represented the most powerful road car to bear the Shelby name at that time, and it remains one of the most coveted among collectors and enthusiasts worldwide.
This particular example benefits from a well-documented chain of custody stretching back to its original purchase from Sud Auto Quebec, an official Ford dealer in Canada. Authenticated by the Shelby American Automobile Club and accompanied by a standard Marti Report, it carries confirmed matching serial numbers and the secret Ford stampings on both front wings. Its second owner restored the car and campaigned it successfully at concours events, while its third owner, a collector in Saumur, France, participated in historic events and had the car featured in V8 Magazine and Rétrocourses.
The current owner, who acquired the car in 2017, has been a diligent custodian. Non-original Le Mans stripes have been removed and the car has been repainted in its correct Lime Gold colour. Period-correct Goodyear Speedway 350 tyres have been fitted, and the car has been stored in a heated and air-conditioned garage with a conscientious maintenance regime. The vendor reports that the bodywork, paintwork, and interior all present very well. Kelsey Hayes wheels with correct date codes and original Carlite glazing further underscore the car's authenticity.
Mechanically, the 428ci V8 is reported to start readily, idle smoothly, and pull strongly, mated to its date-coded C6 three-speed automatic. For anyone seeking a thoroughly documented, carefully maintained, and authentically presented 1967 GT500, this is a compelling opportunity.

Power comes from the legendary 428 cubic-inch (7.0-litre) Police Interceptor V8, equipped with dual four-barrel carburettors and producing approximately 355 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque. The engine is paired with a date-code-correct 1967 three-speed C6 automatic transmission and features a C6ME-A engine block dated 13 February 1967, along with 14-bolt C7AE-A cylinder heads dated 22 February 1967. The vendor reports that the car starts readily when both cold and hot, maintains a steady idle, and runs without overheating. The transmission is said to shift smoothly, with gears engaging correctly at the appropriate rpm. While the carburettor mixture is noted to run slightly rich and may benefit from fine-tuning, the drivetrain is otherwise reported to perform well. The original cast-iron exhaust manifolds have been replaced with Hooker 4-into-1 headers, enhancing exhaust flow and performance.
