The Appeal

The world of motoring is full of unsung visionaries. And they don’t get more unsung or more visionary than Britain’s Michael Booth. Both talented artist and engineer, in the 1970s Michaels vision was conceived - the enthusiastically named Atlantis A1.
While he was at work on this Bugatti-infused 1930s evocation, Bob Jankel of Panther was having similar ideas. But where the Royale wears its proprietary parts in full view - we’ll never quite see past those BMC doors - the A1 is a fully bespoke car that renders its roots virtually invisible.
Just seven A1s were carefully hand-crafted using Jaguar XJ6 Series 2 running gear. This is build number one. Now beautifully finished in navy blue with a high quality quilted black leather interior, it is an exquisite proposition for the discerning collector.
With just 8,000 miles since first registered, this is a fascinating opportunity for lovers of unusual, interesting classics. Any drive will be rewarding with the added advantage of ready-made conversations wherever you pull up.
The vendor says:
“The Atlantis A1 is a breathtaking masterpiece of automotive artistry—an ultra-rare collector’s dream that transcends mere motoring and enters the realm of legend. With only seven ever crafted by the Atlantis Motor Company and just five believed to have survived, this is not just a car—it’s a piece of history, a true icon of bespoke luxury.
“A car of such staggering beauty, exclusivity, and historical significance rarely comes to market. The Chief Restorer of the late Queen Elizabeth II’s Royal Mews Collection once described the Atlantis as “simply stunning—the proportions and lines are perfect and unparalleled.”
“This is more than just a classic car. This is the ultimate automotive fantasy brought to life—a true collector’s grail, a rolling sculpture that guarantees attention, admiration, and prestige wherever it goes. This is what dreams are made of in the classic car world.”

There are evocations of Bugatti-style 1930s tourers and then there is this car. It is a fully bespoke, hand-crafted creation influenced, but not slavishly, by those earlier cars yet very much its own vehicle. It does not obviously use proprietary parts and the result is a fully resolved car.
It looks absolutely stunning in the navy blue that this car now sports. The paintwork is perfect and neatly accented by some lovely details like the black vinyl roof, bespoke chromework and big mesh-covered headlights.
Inside there is a handcrafted quilted black leather interior that covers the doors, dashboard and seats.
Inside and out this car shows few signs of its 51 years. As such it represents a great opportunity for the collector.

The Mechanics

  • 3spd automatic gearbox from Series 2 Jaguar XJ
  • Fitted with power steering
  • Upgraded with electronic ignition

Beneath the 198in length of this marvellous machine lies the robust and reliable running gear of a 1974 Jaguar XJ6 LWB. You’ll find the firm’s well regarded 205bhp 4.2L straight six XK engine mated to a 3spd gearbox. All that is good news for the buyer because it means parts supply is easily and relatively inexpensively available.
The car’s history file verifies the low displayed mileage of 8,000 miles. It comes to market with a recent service and new battery and is said to be in great condition. We understand that there are no issues for the buyer to pick up.
