The Appeal

The trouble with many Cobra replicas is that they don’t get the balance right between aesthetics and performance. Too often, the former trumps the latter. This car, thankfully, doesn’t fall into that trap.

Built to replicate the 1965 cars, including a period-correct plate, and tastefully finished in dark blue, this car is the definition of understatement. And when it comes to a shape as evocative as the Cobra, one that effectively sells itself, that is a good thing. Unseen beneath the bonnet is the heart of the matter, an engine even bigger than the 7L 427CI fitted to the car this one emulates. It has a grunting 7.5L 460CI Ford unit up front.

The car was built using the well-regarded AK Sportscars kit in 1999 and has covered a shade over 10,000 miles in the intervening 26 years. There are extensive records of the build so that the buyer can check through the spec and inform his mechanic whenever work is required. It carries MOT to July 2026 with no advisories.

Since the build it has passed through just five keepers. The vendor acquired it in 2021 from esteemed Ferrari specialist and racing driver, John Pogson, who owned the car for 10 years. We can see why it might have been hard to let go of.

The specification, quality and detailing of this car are obvious from the photos. This is not a regular Cobra replica; it’s one that could probably outrun a real one at the lights.
