The Appeal

The moment it hit the market, the Morgan Plus 8 became one of the most important cars ever built by the Malvern enterprise. Designed on the back of the familiar Plus 4 chassis, these high-octane roadsters were born for leisure driving, kept up the company's period aesthetics and boasted a hefty Rover V8 block under their distinctive nose. It quickly gained a reputation for remarkable acceleration and was a real class leader in its day. 

Nowadays, Morgan is a lifestyle brand - and a good Morgan Plus 8 is the definition of a lifestyle car. They're in high demand, are still eminently usable, and for many years acted as one of the last true bastions of the classic, open-cabin British sports car.

This example is a winner - it's been cherished by the same owner since it left the factory and has covered less than 20,000 miles from new. It's a bona fide time capsule, well-maintained and beautifully kept. The Condition

  • Attractively presented in a signal red livery
  • Gentle chips and marks, particularly to the car's lower extremities 
  • No sign of any dents or dings 
  • Brightwork contrasts well with gentle patina
  • Alloys could use a polish-up 
  • Underside carries some areas of corrosion and patina, but nothing of concern
  • Interior is highly original, with age-commensurate wear
  • All instruments clean and legible
  • Gentle scuffs and marks to the upholstery, but no rips or tears
  • Dashboard in good order, though would benefit from a wipe-down 
  • Some corrosion to the gearstick

The Mechanics

  • 3.5-litre Rover V8 engine
  • 5-speed manual transmission
  • Engine bay is highly original, with some areas of patina
  • The vendor notes that the car has been static for around 5 years
  • As a result some maintenance may be required before returning to the road
  • Cooling system requires a good flush through
  • The vendor reports are slight oil leak
  • Other than this, the car is reportedly very drivable and starts on the key turn without issue
