The Appeal
There are rare Italian cars, and then there’s the Alfa 6. Current records show none are currently taxed in the UK, which makes the arrival of this exceptional 1984 example immensely welcome.
The 6 was the Alfetta’s big brother, an executive car built to ferry Italian businessmen and mafiosi incognito between ‘assignations.’ Given Britain’s more flamboyant approach to gangsterdom, it is perhaps not surprising that only 128 were sold in RHD.
This RHD 2.5L car was first registered in South Africa and lived in the country’s dry climate until earlier this year. This explains the high state of preservation of its rare Blue Olandese (Dutch Blue) paintwork and lovely grey leather interior. Alfa build quality was notoriously fragile in the 80s, so it is a surprise to see just how beautifully preserved this car is, particularly the interior with its plethora of interesting - read unusual - features.
Beneath the big bonnet lies Alfa Romeo’s utterly brilliant ‘Busso’ V6, which was new to the 6. It is mated to a remarkable sextet of carburettors. These have thankfully been carefully set up and tuned before sale.
Displaying just 63,868 kms from new (39,685 miles), this car is a feast for the eyes. We recommend perusing the photos to get a sense of the quality and a reminder of how these cars blend unassuming bodywork with some remarkable detailing.
Now UK registered and ready to enjoy, this is a chance to show off to some British enthusiasts with one of the country’s rarest surviving classics.
