The Appeal
If there’s one thing Porsche did in the 1980s that truly rattled the cage of the purists, it was the 928. A V8 up front. An automatic gearbox. A leather-lined interior that looked more suited to an exec lounge than a pit lane. And yet, somehow, it worked. This 1986 928 S embodies all of that character, in classic Guards Red and showing signs of use, age, and that charming sense of being loved, not coddled.
The cabin presents well overall, with the seats clearly used but not abused, and that dashboard giving off all the spaceship vibes you’d expect from peak ’80s Porsche. Mileage is just over 105k – so not one for your hermetically sealed garage collection, but rather one to actually enjoy. The engine bay is remarkably clean, the car drives, and the documents are all there. There is corrosion visible on the underside, and the paint is beginning to give up the ghost in one or two spots, but the fundamentals are present and correct.
