The Appeal
Not only did Peugeot gift the world arguably the greatest hot hatch in the form of the foot-down cornering king that is the 205 GTI, they offered it in two flavours.
Those who prefer things revvy, light and zingy choose the 115bhp 1.6L, a model that is about as close to perfection as analogue three-door cars have ever got. Good versions remain in high demand and here we have exactly that.
The car is one of the very rare 'Phase 1.5' interim models and the vendor acquired it five years ago. Since then, he has set about a comprehensive programme of light recommissioning that is well documented through photos and receipts in the history file. The work included removing the engine and refurbishing the engine bay, plus a long list of mechanical work. Highlights include replacing the cam belt, water pump, clutch, coolant hoses, radiator and fuel lines. The exterior trim and brackets were replaced, bulkhead repairs undertaken and roof rails remedied.
Inside the car received a full retrim in correct fabric, and the sound deadening was replaced.
The joy of this car, aside from all that work, is that it remains factory standard and highly original. We are told that much of the paintwork is factory original, and enthusiasts will note factory stickers, Clarion stereo, and parcel shelf, as well as the GTI mud flaps. Classic ‘pepperpot’ alloys complete the unmodified feel.
With less than 100,000 documented miles from new and the transparency of 12 months MOT, this is a very tempting little road rocket.
The vendor says:
“A very original car that has only had light recommissioning to make good. Drives very well, gear change has a good fee, idling from cold good and brakes work well.”
