The Appeal
The 916 was created to look fast when it was standing still. Irresistibly wedge-shaped with a Kamm tail, and led by curious dinky headlights on a familiar Alfa Romeo front profile, the aesthetics were an instant winner, as was the performance. This is a remarkably evocative motor, and proved just the ticket for those after a real, pure-blooded Italian sports car. It won an impressive array of awards and set a significant milestone for the Turin firm.
The result was one of the most iconic roadsters of the 90s. Those bold Pininfarina lines also boasted a galvanised bodyshell, and by all accounts, the car was well beyond Alfa's standard build quality. The Spider took this design-led focus in kind, redesigning its rear end to take a folded soft-top without losing the car's impressive silhouette.
This 1998 example stands out in its eye-catching Zoe yellow finish, a rare colour choice that suits those distinctive lines to the ground. It carries the much less troublesome manual roof mechanism, an impressive history file and a valid MOT until May 2026.
