The Appeal

Produced for just two years between 1967 and 1969, the MGC GT paired the elegant fastback silhouette of the MGB GT with a 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder engine, creating a refined grand tourer intended to replace the ageing Austin-Healey. With fewer than 4,500 GT examples built, the MGC GT has always been a rarer proposition than its four-cylinder sibling, and early production cars are rarer still.

This particular example is the 9th car off the production line, completed on 2nd February 1968 and dispatched to A Smart Newcastle Ltd just twelve days later. It is believed to be the 4th oldest MGC GT currently listed as on the road. The car was acquired by the current owner in June 2021 following a comprehensive nut-and-bolt restoration to factory specification by Quarry Classics & Restoration, and it arrived with just 350 miles on the clock. Such was the quality of the finished article that it graced the front cover of Enjoying MG magazine that same year.

Since the acquisition, the car has been used sparingly during the summer months and meticulously cared for: stored in a dry garage with a dehumidifier over winter, serviced annually, and treated each year with Lanoguard corrosion protection. The vendor reports it drives beautifully, with responsive steering and confident braking. Accompanied by a complete dossier of restoration notes and photographs, this early-production car is a genuine top-notch offering that's bound to turn plenty of heads.
