I’m looking to sell my 2002 BMW E39 540i Sport (Japanese import) in titan silver.
As much as I love the E39 platform; I’m missing the luxury of my previous F01 & looking to go back to another 7 series.
Imported via GMS Cars in 2019; it sat around not moving through lockdown, it ticked the boxes when I was looking for a 'projects' earlier this year; but unfortunately it's no longer what I want.
Necessary details:
- Mileage: just over 57k miles (I bought it with just under 56k miles), it’ll go up but not by a lot as it hardly moves during the week as I work from home
- MOT: full clean MOT until 11th August 2023
- x2 keys (one original and one freshly cut and fully programmed to the car)
- Completely rust / corrosion free as you'd expect from a Japanese import
About the car:
As per my norm (and my high levels of OCD) the 540i Sport has been massively maintained thorough preventative maintenance and I’ve nigh on rebuilt the car
A small amount of necessary body work has been carried out also; all 4 door handles were resprayed (lacquer peel) and rear parking sensors fitted – nothing else. There is NO rust to the car whatsoever; this is very typical of Japanese imports.
- It’s had a FULL cooling system overhaul (all OEM spec parts)
- I’ve replaced the full braking system with OEM spec parts (discs, pads, lines, fluid).
- I’ve replaced every part of the suspension (all arms, bushes (OEM spec), drop links, track rod ends, subframe bushes etc), shocks & springs. The rear ARB has been upgraded to the thicker E39 M5 rear ARB and all ARB bushes are Powerflex. All suspension parts are OE/ OEM - not cheap aftermarket!
My FULL 'warts n all' project is on Piston. heads; contact me for the linkThe car is in fantastic overall condition. It is 20 years old though and has some age related marks; the wing mirror caps need respraying really (this was the next part of work for me to do but a job for Spring 2023 after we've got through winter); that & the front bumper as the paintwork isn't as bright as it should be. Common issue with Japanese import cars; the acid rain dulls the lacquer/ paint in Japan.
There is some galvanic corrosion to the high gloss window trims; steel screws holding aluminium trim! It happens over the years; not something I was worried about or prepared to sort personally as you can only see it if you look for it
The rest of the car is in great condition; hardly any other marks, certainly no dents and absolutely NO rust, whatsoever!
All 4 alloys wheels have been freshly refurbished & powder-coated in OEM BMW Silver and fitted with brand new Goodyear all-season tyres & stainless valves. All 4 wheels are as new with NO marks whatsoever and fitted with OEM BMW badges/ centre capsThe interior is in superb condition; the leather seats are in superb condition. They've been cleaned & conditioned thoroughly by me and are very comfy.
The front memory, electric & heated seats work perfectly and heat up as they should
The headliner has unfortunately started to sag over the drivers seat. Very common issue with Japanese import BMWs of this age. It hasn't worsened in my ownership; but I daren't try to repair it incase I make it worse!
There are some dead pixels on the OEM 16:9 head unit screen, again very common. But the HVAC panel is faultless and the dash cluster has been professionally converted to MPH/ miles and with a new pixel ribbon fitted via AK Speedo. I've pictures of the process and full paperwork for this
I've fitted brand new OEM BMW floor mats; the boot has a non-slip boot liner fitted also
It came with the rear electric blind parcel-shelf; unfortunately this was damaged. I've removed that and fitted an OEM standard parcel-shelf. The electric blind parcel-shelf will come with the car in case the new owner wants to try & repair it
I've removed the dark window tints; it looks much better for it!
Everything else is OEMLOTS of paperwork inc physical receipts/ invoices as well as over 70 pages on an MS Word document
Full V5 in my name and the MOT certificate also
Bought privately from the first UK owner of the car who bought it from GMS Cars in Guildford (well known importers of Japanese BMWs)
Bought at 55900 miles (c90k KM); it's now done just over 57200 miles
The speedo is now in MPH/ miles- It’s had a FULL cooling system overhaul (stat, water pump, hoses, coolant, sensors etc) bar the rad as that’s a Behr one and dated 2017. Alongside this it had all the top-end rocker gaskets/ spark plug gaskets etc replaced as well as a full 5W30 oil & Mann filter change. All the belts have been changed also
- I’ve replaced the full braking system (discs, pads, lines, fluid) with ATE Powerdiscs and ATE Ceramic pads, along with TRW brake lines and Motul DOT5. 1 fluid
- I’ve replaced every part of the suspension (all arms, bushes, drop links, track rod ends, subframe bushes etc); I’ve upgraded the rear ARB to the thicker E39 M5 one with new Powerflex bushes as well as new Powerflex bushes for the front ARB. All suspension parts are either Lemforder, TRW, Febi etc.
- I’ve replaced all 4 corners also (brand new Sachs OEM Sport shocks, Eibach pro-kit springs, Febi top mounts & bearings.
- It’s also had the likes of the guibo (AKA propshaft donut) replaced; new HEL small brake lines by the ABS pump done also as well as a plethora of other things inc. a full autobox service & new ZF selector switch fitted at the same time. OEM 16:9 head unit is in place and works fine; Grom Audio BT3 Bluetooth kit fitted which works with the OEM controls etc (hands free/ A2DP music playback)
- Full aircon re-gas via Bowker BMW; that was done when they did the full health check and airbag recall
I’ve had a ‘back box’ delete done to release some of the V8 sound & burble; it is not OTT, it’s very subtle and quiet when cruising (no drone) etc. I still have the OEM back box that will come with the car & any decent welder at a garage could soon have it refitted if required
I've fitted an 82mm stud conversion kit, as the17" alloys are sitting on 15mm hubcentric spacers all round to have the wheels 'sitting more flush' with the arches; but they're still nicely under and look really well.
This can all easily be removed
