Description
Here is my VW beetle that i have owned for 5 years.
Bit of history on it first. iw as perviously restored to a good standard in the early 90s and was a regular at VW events and was also featured in Volksworld at that time. i first saw it at Bugjam 1994 and i took a photograph of it, along with a similar Cal look style green 66. I still have the photos to this day. I always said if i ever got the change to own one of them i would take it.
Fast forward to around 25 years later and my opportunity came! However the car looked very different after many years of neglect, bad repairs and been stripped of all its original Empi period accessories which made it special.
Once i got it home, i dug out the old Volksworld Magazine featureand reminded myself of the guy who owned it "Back in the day". after a quick internet search i manged to get in touch with him. i explained my intentions of returning the car to its former glory with the added challenge of finding all of the NOS period accessories that he had fitted in the 90's. he has been a great help in spurring me on when id had enough!
The full nut and bolt, body off restoration took me around 4 years to complete. I have owned and worked on old VW's ( particularly Beetles since my teens ( Now 44!) so although it was a challenge to say the least, i had plenty of knowlege and experience.
Bodywork and chassis wise it had the best parts i could find. Genuine vw Floors, New heater chanels, Runst free doors, bonnet and engine lid, from the dry states. Wolfparts rear cross members and bumper mounts etc etc.
it is 100% solid, with no rust or problem areas. all repars have been completed so that they are not visible, rather than just patched up and therefore it is very presentable both on top and underneath. Gets lots of attention wherever it goes.
the details belowMechanically all gone through, engine has been refreshed with everything cleaned, or replaced. Tinware powdercoated gloss black. All suspension parts have been cleaned or replaced. interior is still the Bernard Newbury interior from back in the day which is still surprisingly good! New carpet set too with wool bound edges in Grey.
the nice NOS empi parts it has are, EZR shifter, Rose wood dash nobs, Door Puls, GloveboxThe interior is very nice and it still sports its Bernard Newbury interior which was installed back in the 90s. Bernard newbury was a renowned custom coachtrimmer from Essex who was most well known for his VW interiors. this has lasted very well. not perfect, but still looks fantastic, expecially against the pearl white paint.
The headliner again is part of its previous resto and is still great.
i have had new Carpets installed over plenty of sound deadening so it feels super solid when you driving along in it and closing the doors.
It now has replacements for the original EMPI goddies that were on it in the 90s. These include an NOS EZR shifter, Rosewood dash nobs, Door Pulls and glove box pull. It has a period Blaupunkt stereo in the dash, whith a modern stereo mounted under the dash out of the line of sight. the steering wheel is an early Flat 4 replica of the empi GTV.
I have had the original handbrake leaver chromed to match the Shifter. Other than this history i know, it doesnt have any from before the early 90s unfortunatly, however they were not deemed so much as a classic before then and as they were so common, except by a few, they were not classed as anything worth looking afterMechanically all gone through, 1200cc engine has been refreshed with everything cleaned, or replaced. Tinware powdercoated gloss black. All suspension parts, brakes etc have been cleaned or replaced.
Electrics converted to 12V.
The only issue which is a new thing is that the gear box has begun to whine. i have sourced a used replacement, however i do not have the time or inclination currently to install, so i am open to offers taking this into account.
In the photos the car is sitting on Genuine Empi Sprintstar wheels. these are not included in the sale, however it will come with a set of freshly Chrome Powdercoated and detailed BRM reps with the new tyres shown in the add mounted to them.
